Featured Audience Members, Show Recap No Comments »

20140530_222022It’s 9:00 at the Warwick Museum of Art and that means BYOI! Tonight we had Daniel, Candice, Ian and Alex and our Featured Audience Member was Dave. He works for the government, likes hiking and lions and wants to go to Italy. Our first game of the night was Sing It! where we learned such lessons as practicing “safe” shooting, “The Italian Way” means pasta, and that lions really like balls of yarn.

Next up was Serious Scene, where Larry was divorced because he left his socks out. Then we played Lines From a Cup where Dante got asked if he hadn’t always wanted a monkey and we saw that gondola poles can, in fact, be very dangerous! This was followed by Interrogation Line-Up which featured four suspects accused of the serious crime of chewing gum in Atlantis with Ophelia. Busta Rap was up next, where we heard such awesome rhymes as “swimmin’ in the pool when it’s almost yule.”

Then came Follow That Action where we met Betty, the creepiest elevator operator around – and they’re not even union! This was followed by our game of the month, Two-Headed Monster, in which we saw The Matrix in Mexico, and were informed that “I am very karate.” Our last game of the night (aww!) was Curtain Call, where we learned – in case you didn’t already know – that old ladies are very wise.

20140530_202011It’s 7:00 at the Warwick Museum of Art and that means it’s time for BYOI’s family-friendly show! Tonight we had Daniel, David, Candice, Ian and Alex and our Featured Audience Member was Alexia. She’s a sophomore in high school who likes band but hates history, wants to be an English teacher and would be a cat if she could! Our first game of the night was Revolver which featured such diverse topics as K-Pop, the history of ghosts, not cool history, and band teachers in Asia.

Then we played Helping Hands and our intrepid cast members had to do the dishes and wrestle with the problem of mayo that had been stored in the cupboard and was covered in hair. This was followed by The Quickest Minute, which re-told the story of Peter Pan in 60 seconds, 30 seconds, 20 seconds and finally in only 10 seconds! Next up was Short Cutz which showcased a pre-historic YouTube video of a sabretooth playing the piano.

Slogans was up next, and we saw new slogans for such things as Harry Potter, chocolate, the Grand Canyon, band kids, and English teachers. Then we moved on to the Everything Emporium where our peculiar customers of the day were looking for a pony that made chocolate, a vacuum cleaner that could bring Michael Jackson back from the dead and a tuba that created monkeys. This was followed by our game of the month, Two-Headed Monster, in which we saw coffee cups exploding when they got put in the dishwasher. Our last game of the night was Spelling Bee where they had to spell boo, taxes, lawyers, thespians and Rosh Hoshanah!

BYOI – Too Much Sun in “Rob”land!

Birthday Party, Featured Audience Members, Private Show, Show Recap No Comments »

20140525_140704It was a sunny day in the Lincoln Woods Park and BYOI was doing a show for Rob’s 13th Birthday Party!  Rob and all of his friends and family were joined by Josh, Candice and Myself.  We checked in with Rob as the FAM and learned that all he wanted for his birthday was candy, cards and money… this was a lot to go on.

So we began with a hiking trip with Rob and friends and learned that if you stay out in the sun too long, you became Rob… and that joke carried us almost through the rest of the show. Action Figures found Candice and Rob on a Baseball fishing trip… but don’t look before you throw. Two headed monster allowed the Chinese Ping-Pong being described to an American using fast food. Good Cop, Bad Cop had Candice accused of Climbing a Tree in “Rob”land with Elvis. Fortunately/Unfortunately brought out the sun… or not.  And Finally Highlander found Rob performing Hell Frozen over all by himself for the “win!”  Happy Birthday Rob!

20140523_221600It’s 9:00 at the Warwick Museum of Art and that means BYOI! Tonight we had Daniel, David, Alex and Josh and our FAM was Dana who wanted to be a bus driver when she grew up (although that isn’t what happened). Our first game of the night was Say It Again, where we saw the gas that made the clowns come out of the walls and that every good disaster needs a proctologist. Next up was Highlander which featured fishing with dynamite and “I’m so angry with you I’m gonna give you a hug.” Then came Catch Phrase where one person could only say “What are you doing here?” and “I see dead people” while the other could only say “Whodunit?” and “Mine!”

Good Cop Bad Cop was next and the crime there was skipping on the Great Barrier Reef with a janitor. What? It could happen. Didn’t even know it was a crime, did you? Then we played Blank Walks into a Bar which featured such diverse bar patrons as a slinky, Barbie, a gymnast, snow, a koala and a cat. Then we played Action Figures which had them playing Rock, Paper, Scissors to see who had to go get the mail. Our Game of the Month, Two-Headed Monster, came next where we saw a suicidal bomb disposal squad. Finally, we played Spelling Bee which featured such challenging words as book, sassy, daughter, attitude and education.

20140523_201257It’s 7:00 at the Warwick Museum of Art and that means BYOI’s family friendly show! Our cast tonight was Daniel, David, Josh and Alex. Our Featured Audience Member was Katie, a secretary at a photography studio who likes Greece and bonfires with friends. Our first game of the night was Remake which featured a scene about Greece first in the horror genre – “No more burnt baklava!”, then as a romantic comedy which featured a restaurant that sold nothing but salad, and finally as a western – “Purdy girls ain’t so Purdy with mud on their faces.” Next we played Growing and Shrinking where we saw that smiling at the camera can make it explode and that Holmes isn’t happy which makes Watson horrified. This was followed by The Good, The Bad and The Ugly which featured advice on such diverse topics as opening doors, jumping rope and what to do about head lice.

Then we played Say It Again and saw Daniel roll an Oompa-Loompa down the hill into a forest of T-Rexes. Rope came next where we saw pizza being compressed into a block, car keys kept in hair, and dinosaurs everywhere! This was followed by the Dating Game which featured three lovely bachelorettes – Marie Antoinette, someone afraid of poisonous snakes, and a peninsula. Our game of the month was next, Two-Headed Monster, where we learned all about a match’s sole purpose in life, how to roast marshmallows on the cat, and that lumberjack Carl’s on vacation. Finally, we played Sing It which featured the Gilmore Girls – not the Golden Girls, although there seemed to be some confusion on this point – being in the famous sorority Kappa Zeta Thai Latte Mocha.

FAM2 051614We’re back for the second show of the night at the Warwick Museum of Art! Once again, we had Daniel, Meredith, Ian, Amy, Josh and Alex on stage making everyone laugh. The FAM this time was Jason, who was brought to the show by friends he was visiting. Jason works in quality control and likes his coworkers. Someday he’ll see Wales and thinks it would be would be cool to be a velociraptor, since they have sharp pointy teeth and are clever. FAM Revolver centered around supposed bits of Jason’s life, like being a really good clipboard holder and sitting on his brother.

Helping Hands was the first game of the night with audience participation, and audience member Beth gleefully jumped in to help out her cousin Daniel during Helping Hands. Did I mention it was Daniel’s birthday? Happy birthday, Daniel! Anyway, Alex also helped out Ian in the game which featured Canadians rocking the boat, yummy poutine and a grill on the back of the boat. What Are You Doing featured audience members Amy, Tom, Maggie and Debbie in line with the cast. Here are some of the things they did: got run over by Daffy Duck, changed a raptor’s diaper, regretted leather pants and Steve.

In Alphabet, the cast was joined by audience member Sierra. They setup a brewery inside an orca and a seal was upset with Daniel for making fun of it. Along the way, we met a queen and a purple whale! We then moved on to Excuses, Excuses, where Alex was late to work. Ian wasn’t too thrilled that coworkers Meredith, Amy and audience member Jessi were helping him figure out that he ran out of gas, bought a goat and was abducted by a time traveling alien. The Game of the Month, Two Headed Monster followed that. Ian and Alex played the monster in a scene with Josh. They learned about dinosaurs through movies, and somehow Highlander and Jurassic Park combined and made everyone want to dance!

Because I Said So was next, with Josh asking the cast as well as audience members Kate, Amy and Joe about life. Why is the sky blue? Because it’s a nice color, the Xbox is fun to play, Fridays are boring, BYOI is the best, 42 and the dog was annoying. Obviously. The night ended with Sing It! Mom picked the prettiest girl, there were planes and Ted had an accident.

FAM1 051614It’s Friday night, which means it’s time for BYOI at the beautiful Warwick Museum of Art! Tonight, we had Daniel, Meredith, Ian, Josh, Alex and Amy on hand. The FAM was Katrina, who is in elementary school and loves the solar system. She’s also a fan of reading chapter books and drawing, but her math class is kinda boring. She came to BYOI with her mom, aunt and sister, and once went to Block Island–which she said is shaped like a duck! Katrina and Josh hosted FAM Movie Critics, where we saw scenes from the story of Katrina’s life. She somehow went back in time to teach the 3rd graders about the solar system, where everyone voted to make Pluto a planet again. Later, Block Island Ferry fairies appeared and dropped her off on the island, which is full of therapists.

In Freeze Tag, the cast was joined by FAM Katrina and audience members Eliana and Shaun. They went to hockey finals, dug to China and learned to not bring a microphone into the shower. Tableau was next, with Eliana and Shaun once again helping out. This time, they made pictures of scenes like a zoo and junkyard. Revolver had audience members Alexia and Emily helping Ian and Daniel out in four scenes. Somewhere along the line, Kermit was fired from the Muppets and became one of the 99% and the safety hat was the newest fad.

Quick Scenes had the cast joined by FAM Katrina and audience members Brett and Shaun. They did short scenes about checking out art, the old Spice Girls and a duck billed platypus. Audience favorite Chainsaw was next, with audience members Amy and Rob helping out. The game started off with a welder in a pool with a drumset, but hilariously turned into a carpenter in a barbershop with a carrot. From there, we moved onto the Game of the Month, Two Headed Monster! Josh and Alex played the monster in a scene with Meredith. She questioned who to target during a duel at high noon and wondered if Mona Lisa is pretty. The night ended with Do Run, with everyone excited over the show.

BYOI – Camping on Doughnut Mountain!

Private Show, Show Recap No Comments »

Actionfig5
On this Friday morning, Josh and I decided to go camping… in Stoney Lane Elementary School!  The two of us did six shows all centered around the camping survival do’s and don’ts.  This was not our traditional show format, so there was no FAM to be had, but plenty of volunteers both old and young.  We fished for donuts and marshmallows, hunted unicorns and learned both Josh and I can fit inside a five foot tent!  Thanks to the school for having us and we will see you all really soon!

FAM2 050914It’s time for the second half of the night at the Warwick Museum of Art! Once again, David, Ian, Amy, Josh and Alex were on hand. This show’s FAM was Deb, who is a director of analysis. Her perfect day would be where she could walk her 2 dogs, play tennis and see her husband. If all of her coworkers did their jobs, that’d be a bonus. One day, Deb wants to go on a safari and take pictures, which sounds like fun! In FAM Day in the Life, the cast changed Deb’s day around slightly. Her dogs had to promise to not attack the postman, a coworker was promoted to another coworker’s assistant and her husband had to become a Bruins fan in Massachusetts. Freeze Tag someone kicked out of 503 bands, bowling in the tv and cute animals who were singing and dancing.

Try That On For Size had the cast helped out by audience member Kate. They microwaved Peeps, made donuts a new way and felt soft and smooth. From there, Ian decided it was time to write a story in Typewriter. The rest of the cast acted out the story of a brown dog. He hired a smart guy off the street, then went to the circus where they had an elephant riding a unicycle and slow runners. Somehow, the story ended with Gary Coleman. After that craziness, it was time for a trip to the Everything Emporium. Ian had to sell Amy a key that turned her invisible. Alex wanted a mai tai that doubled as antifreeze and Kate wanted an elephant that heats elbows.

Two Headed Monster was next, with Josh and Ian in a scene with Alex. The Real Housewives were gossiping and invented a special drink with guacamole and absinthe. Back In My Day was next, with the cast and audience member Lara throwing out groaners about the safari, cafeterias, zoos and tennis. Alex and Josh had a rivalry throughout the game, and I think Alex won. The night ended with Serious Scene, where Deb’s not-so-favorite coworker needed a ticket to get on a ride. The ride was missing some nuts and bolts, which was okay because it was time to go to the squid market where they met a lefty octopus.

FAM1 050914We’re back for another night of fun at the Warwick Museum of Art! Tonight we had Alex, Josh, Amy, Ian and David as our entertainers. The FAM was Shaun, who is Alex’s dad! He teaches high school math and would like to visit the warm beaches of Jamaica. Shaun is a proud husband and father of two children, who he says are talented and even more talented. In FAM Growing & Shrinking Machine, a flash mob was figuring out their choreography, spoons were used to smear instead of slit, and the mathlete cheerleaders were excited about Pi!

Ian and Alex told a story in Fortunately/Unfortunately. Amy and Josh played two kids who were very skilled in the art of taxidermy. A bear was a better groundskeeper on a golf course and in the end, they decided to no longer stuff animals. Alex was the picky director of “Flashdance” in Remake. In the scifi version, no one can hear you sing “Maniac” while the Bollywood version featured dancing in a call center. The final remake was the Rob Zombie horror version with a drag car that had tasted blood. Jennifer Beals, save us!

Post It had the cast doing short skits around strange pairings like a creepy mannequin & cloned sheep, pickle & Hopedale and tennis coach & rollercoaster. From there, Alex needed help from his dogs in Timmy in the Well. Thankfully David, Ian and Amy were able to explain in dogspeak that Anna Karenina spilled hot coffee on herself in Siberia. Next up, was the Game of the Month! Two Headed Monster had David and Amy as one person in a scene with Josh. They couldn’t find potatoes in Poland, learned that cabbage really likes caffeine and in the end, Josh was fabulous.

Sit, Stand & Lie Down had Alex, Josh and Ian afraid of robots because they don’t die and just build their own robots, which then build their own robots, who then build their own robots. Creepy. Highlander took place in class, where Billy was going to be failed for not talking in speech class. However, was he deaf of just sensitive to loud noises? Amy, Ian and Josh gleefully let Alex’s family cheer him on, so he had to finish the game alone.
