imageWe’re back at the Warwick Center of the Arts with Amy, Ian, Candice, Jonathan, Emily and Ally! Our FAM was Jonathan, who is a computer student at Bryant and would love to visit Italy for the food and attractions. He came with his nerdy friend Jake, but Jake got revenge by describing Jonathan as even nerdier. Thankfully, the cast is also full of nerds, so all is well here! He loves when we play Greatest Hits, which would have made him happy at the 7pm show. Instead, he was in charge of the bell for FAM Say It Again! Candice was a squirrel at Bryant, where she was surrounded by nuts of all kinds.

Sports Commentator had Emily and Candice cleaning gutters, but Emily was sabotaged by wildlife. Candice’s technique was using her tongue, which ended up being a winning strategy. Questions taught us you can have a degree in fruit, body normalcy, hot flashes and the Bat Cave! Pavlovian Response was a ton of fun! Ally kept lunging, Ian kept mooing and Jonathan was in charge of both of them.

Catch Phrase was next, with Amy at the fair with Emily and FAM Jonathan. Emily was concerned about passing and bedtime, while Jonathan kept trying to win prizes. In Slogans, we learned about penguins, pepperoni, Jake, fall and chameleons. Action Figures orbited around space, and the night ended with Post It. The Tower of London & the 7th circle of hell, dog whisperer & crowbar, the fury of a woman scorned & toaster were just a few of the fun combinations.

imageTonight we had a great family friendly show at the Warwick Center For the Arts with David, Jonathan, Candice, Ian, Emily, Ally and Amy. Ally had a great first show as an official cast member! Our FAM was Ross, who is a student. He’s originally from Miami and is a proud Seahawks fan in New England. Ross plays all the sports and would like to be a professional athlete. “The Greatest Hits of Cookies” was the album reviewed by Jonathan and our FAM Ross in FAM Greatest Hits. The cast sang about boring cookies, everything cookies, and allergic reactions to cookies.

Tableau was up first, with a picture of football (Ian was another injuried Patriots player), an ice cream stand, a burrito place (Jonathan was the confused potato), and Disneyworld. A plan was hatched at the pirate eyepatch store in Meanwhile, before Candice was accused of a crime in Good Cop, Bad Cop. She jaywalked into a tree at the dump with Captain Crunch. So horrible!

Six Pack was next, with a plan to combat bullies, a kid learning to eat and the cutest audience volunteer ever. Post It had crazy combinations like NSA Agent & Land of Oz, athlete & badly maintaned resort, Valhalla, Afterlife of the Viking Warriors & horse trainer, toothpaste taste tester & grapefruit, and financial aid administrator & chess pawn. Up next was Good, Bad & Ugly, with audience members giving advice for problems like how to give gifts, what to do with an eye injury, and how to cook for people. The final game of the show was Debate Club! The cast and volunteers respectfully debated about what smart people do, tea vs. veggies, and circles (they don’t have angles), lines, and merry go round racing!

imageGood evening everybody and welcome to the Youth Collective Show for this Friday night. Tonight on class we have Rose, Ethan, Gabriella, Gabby and Shane and our FAM Carolyn. She is a 7th grader who has a friend named Butterfly Destiny, wants to study the Edwardian Time Period and thinks telepotation is neat! So we played some Sing It where we sent kids to the moon and teaching them English.

Next up is Freeze Tag where we thought of baby shampoo and learned that baseball is violent. In Excuses, Excuses, Rose was late to work because there was a flood, her baby threw up a whisk on the stove and discovered a new continent. The Bench screamed “NO!” in Famous Last Words and we homeschooled the King in Lines from a Cup. Finally in Highlander Gabriella had to study how many watermelons were going to Denny’s.

20160924_180728BYOI is at the Providence Improv Festival with Josh, David, Ian, Candice and Myself and our FAM Levi. Levi likes cats, riding his bike and Kit Kats. Our first game had Levi as our Pillar as we got Super Cat to fly at an annoying neighbor.

Next up, in Try That On for Size, we saw people raking roofs, holding unsteady typewriters and punching really tall people. In Chainsaw an Engineer at a Build a Bear Workshop with a feather became a laundry worker on Mount Everest, but feather made it back after becoming so many other things. CRAZY!  Sing It found Disney Employees hating happy coworkers… and children. Then Action Figures found that cracking eggs can be very hard. Finally we had some silk in our cereal in Curtain Call.

It was a great show, a great audience and special thanks to the Dimple Divers for opening for us!

20160923_220654Welcome back to the Warwick Center for the Arts! It’s 9m on a Friday night, and we had a blast at BYOI’s Late Night Show! On cast were David, Josh, Candice, Barbara, Daniel and Emily. Our FAM was Lily, who is studying Human Development and Family Studies at URI, and hopes to someday work with kids in a hospital. She likes to shop for sweaters, cooking Spongebob shaped Kraft Mac and Cheese, and likes the color pink, and if she were a book she’d be a romance novel.

In FAM Remake, Cheesy Sweaters were literally cheese, industrial accidents were narrowly avoided, and zombies had cheese graters….and brains. Our second game of the evening was What are You Doing?, during which superheroes combated moths. unicorns were ridden, water mains broke, watermelons were reengineered, and Canada was repaved. We moved on to Pillars, where cosplay at Candy Land became dangerous for Josh, the feet were purple and Daniel lost his forklift.

Life was a party during Party Quirks, where new cast member Barbara had to guess that her guests were the Alamo, an exuberant roll of toilet paper and Selena Gomez. We followed that up with Typewriter, where Polar Cage starred Nicholas Cage trying to foil the evil villains trying to take over Alaska. A game of Rope brought our cast  to the stage with puppies, paper towels, pudding and pecan pies. Sit, Stand and Lie Down was next. Spongebob Mac and Cheese was worse than lasagna, the cheese was knitted again, and the mess was partially cleaned. We capped off the show with Lines From A Cup, where we read whatever the audience suggested, with much hilarity resulting!

20160923_200108It’s 7pm at the Warwick Center for the Arts, time for some Family Friendly Improv! On cast tonight we have David, Josh, Candice, Daniel, Emily and the official debut of new cast member, Barbara! Our FAM was Rowan, our Youth Collective Member who is celebrating her 15th birthday! She would like to travel to Australia, plays several musical instruments, and loves the film After The American Civil War, and would time travel to the renaissance if she could. If she had super powers, she would fly. Unlike Arrow and Hawkeye, who can just “shoot arrows really good”. We started the show with a song for Rowan, with a FAM Do Run.  Our next game was Freeze Tag, during which messes were left, statues were sculpted, Tony gave water and we ran very slowly to teach history with snowballs. We followed that up with Lines from a Cup, where the onceler still lived here, we explored the deep, and fed the puppies. In Excuses, Excuses, Daniel had to guess that he was late for work at the breakfast place because he had to change a diaper, got kidnapped by a helicopter, and got stuck under a piano.

Sing It was next, where Rowan had the power to make the cast sing any line at all. Renaissance beaches in Australia had Fred unable to cross the bridge, and sweaty people make movies. Famous Last Words featured lots of audience volunteers, and the last words of dog walkers, ballet dancers, mimes, tour guides, and firefighters. Our game of Sports Commentator captured the Astronaut Olympics, where Buzz Aldrin forgot about microgravity, hammers were weightless, and we continued to look up facts in a book, in space, even thought the airlock malfunctioned.

We ended the show with Curtain Call, where we once again sang for our FAM Rowan.

It’s 6pm at the Warwick Center for the Arts, time for our Youth Collective show! On cast were Carolyn, Emmie, Hetta, Madeline and Rowan, with BYOI cast member Emily leading the way. Our FAM was Duane ,who is a nurse. He loves to race bicycles, has a dog named Wags who has no tail, and a cat named Nala who does indeed have a tail. We revisited Duane’s typical day with our first game, FAM Day in the Life. where Nala the cat followed Duane to work one day, which was against the rules.  We followed that up with Remake, in which flying cars were inhibited by overreaching plans, slow walking  for tea took 20 minutes 20 seconds 20 years.

In Everything Emporium, Emmie had to figure out that Hetta was looking for a movie about DVD’s, Rowan needed lemons that clean the stove, and Madeline wanted a firetruck that delivers birthday greetings. In debate club, things got lively when talking slowly was boring while learning to speak at all. Following that was Short Cutz, where biscuits rose to astronomical proportions, there was too much yeast, and the biscuit expert determined it was a new species, to which he was violently allergic.

Our final game was Busta Rap! The entire Youth Collective battled it out for the title of master rapper. Maddie was out first, repeating the word Bog as a rhyme for Frog. Carolyn was taken down round two after a valiant effort, and round three saw Hetta step back, and Rowan finished in second. Emmie took it home with a rhyme about coffee…

IMG_0769It’s Friday Night at The Warwick Center for the Arts, and it’s time for Bring Your Own Improv’s late night show! On cast this evening was Emily, Josh, Candice, Daniel, Ian and Erich! A very special welcome back to Erich, a former cast member whose official return was tonight! Our FAM was Maria, who likes to read all kinds of books, pines to travel to museums in Paris, and would have a cross between a German Shepherd and a lion for a pet, if she could. We kicked off the games with FAM Pillar, in which pants were lemon fresh, German lion didn’t mind the monkeys and smuggling pickles was a serious crime. In Try That on for Size, Erich died, Jenga was played, phones were turned off in a flash, and aliens burst forth from Daniel’s chest!

A couple of brave audience volunteers joined us for Movie Critics, where CGI food was vaporized, Pokemon family troubles ensued, and the cupcakes were way too sweet. The “Volunteer a Bunch” trend continued with audience regular Kate joining Emily and the rest of the cast onstage for Newborn, during which it was revealed that Kate was the Statue of Liberty. Emily was really Brad Pitt, and their baby was a Pancake Pizza.

Our game of Two Headed Monster had yet another brave volunteer showing us that monsters don’t smell like tacos, and mom gets confused when dessert includes fur and glitter. In Quick Scenes, Pizza baby was delicious, the neon lights were bright, and the Pen was phenomenal. We closed the show with a rousing Irish Ditty all about our FAM, Maria!

20160916_201044 (1)It’s 7pm at The Warwick Center for the Arts, time for our Family Friendly show! On cast are Emily, Josh, Candice, Ian, Daniel and David. Our FAM was Christopher, who came from Australia and is a high school science teacher. He was here at BYOI for the first time tonight! He told us about his compassionate child, his curious child, and his wife who is a “goofball”.  We kicked off the show with FAM Day in the life, there was a zebra because there were no elephants, the dog got fluffier, coffee was made, and Vegemite was rejected. In Remake, we remade ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Show” as an angry comedy, a monster flick, and  slapstick. Next was Guidance Counselor, in which Emily was the counselor, advising Youth Collective member Ethan and cast members Candice and Daniel. The school Nurse was sneezing and too sick to nurse people, the teacher was not hip enough to quit and join a rock band, until he bought a hair metal wig.

Everything Emporium featured Josh as the shop owner, with customers who needed a car that smells like sausages, a magenta elephant, and a flying piano. Short Cutz involved leaving kids at the zoo, star wars songs played, and paperwork was overwhelming. Our game of Debate Club included Youth Collective member Carolyn and an audience volunteer. Stars were painted, white out corrected mistakes but just covered them up, pens had erasers that erased all ten papers, boards were made of wood, and politics were crazy, like green monsters and purple monsters.

Playing Fortunately/Unfortunately brought us on a trip to connecticut, where an off road trip led to digestive issues, beans were tasty enough, and friendly creatures were delicious. We wrapped it up with a Busta Rap, where smog and chalk knocked out David and Ian, Youth Collective member Madeline did very well, until Candice tripped her up, Candice thought zoodle was a word, and our FAM’s daughter made it nearly to the end while rhyming for “Chris”. Josh took it away with rhymes for “Vegemite”.

imageWelcome back to the Warwick Center For the Arts for our late night show with Ian, Daniel, Candice, Amy, Jonathan and Josh! Our FAM was Michaela, who is in college and working on learning sign language. She came to the show with her nerdy, fun friends and wouldn’t visit Rhode Island if she didn’t live here. FAM Pack had Ian as a pizza photographer and Jonathan posing as a fierce, cheesy cheesecake.

Trolley Stop showed off a bunch of characters like backwards walkers, jelly legs, turtles and step dancers. Meanwhile had football players deciding if they should actually play, a therapy session and a surprise in the maternity ward. Speaking of therapy, Daniel had to give advice in Marriage Counselor. Jonathan was afraid of his own facial hair, audience member Shane collected teacup chihuauas and together, they lived in a house on a Monopoly board.

Freeze Tag was next with a plane on its way, Candice’s magical fingers of growth and Emily as the worst arranged wife. This was followed by Post It, with weird combinations like chainsaw+Narnia, train+Delorean, phlebotomist+puppy store, and taxidermist+Chuck-E-Cheese. Growing and Shrinking had official city dirt, “Monster Mash” with a clown and Josh lifting like a forklift. The final game of the night was The Quickest Minute version of “The Hangover.”
