imageWe had a great last regular show of our ninth season at the Warwick Center For the Arts! This time, Candice, Amy, Jonathan, Emily, Daniel and Barbara were on hand to make everyone have a great time. Our FAM was Florie, who is “definitely” retired, and used to own a pizza place AND an ice cream shop! She came to the show with her husband, brother and sister in law. She likes playing slots and left Ohio for Rhode Island to be with her family. The cast serenaded Florie in Welcome Song.

Trolley Stop started off the games, with Eeyore, caffeinated ice cream fans and monkeys/Monkees. Florie came up with the film “Totally Craziness” for Remake, with the cast making impressions of one another at a BYOI show. The second version was a Christmas film, while the third one was stop motion, and finally a snark film rounded it out. Next up was Chainsaw, with a Lego store employee at the dump with a dreidel potato. It somehow turned into a barista or chemist at the Death Star or boat with a cat or gerbil. Of course!

Next up was Alphabet with a dark gambling habit, followed by World’s Worst. We met the worst relative, musician and substitute teacher. Follow That Action then started off at the amusement park in Ohio and went crazy from there. The night ended with Curtain Call, with the cast singing about tacos, mashed potatoes and hair problems.

imageWe had a great final night of our ninth season with Daniel, Jonathan, Candice, Emily, Barbara and Kennedy! Welcome home, Kennedy!! Our FAM was Gabriella! She’s in the ninth grade and loves studying English. When she’s not in school, she’s in improv and trapeze classes! She came to the show with her dad, sister and brother. FAM Day in the Life had Gabriella’s acrobat partner teaching her the importance of breakfast, before competing with her little sister.

What Are You Doing had backflips, turkey carving, flea market bargains and canned brothers. Next, we played Pillars, with a train at the gas station with shoes and fondue. Timmy In the Well had Justin Bieber doing dishes on the Eiffel Tower, before Daniel had to be the Guidance Counselor for troubled students. Candice had to learn to stand up for herself, Emily kept spinning, and Barbara solved Daniel’s glue shortage problem.

Because I Said So taught us that the happy sun made corn flakes yellow, snow is the result of sad clouds, and iron gives you hair. This was followed by Freeze Tag, where Daniel needed his chi centered, Barbara went on her first horse ride, and Timon & Pumba practiced singing. The show ended with Debate Club, where we learned about Candice going to Kenya, safety hazards, more animals that cats, dog and fish, and finally, awesome bears.

imageIt’s 9pm at the Warwick Center for the Arts, time for BYOI’s Late Night show! On cast were Meredith, Daniel, David, Jonathan, Ian and Ally. Our FAM was Paul, who likes to paint, cook and garden. He dresses in costume at Ren Faires as a dragon master with his dragon friend, Sidney. We started the evening with FAM remake, in which Sidney the Purple Dragon did some amazing tricks, there were mimes and laser gates and an aubergine gunfight. Two Headed Monster took place in a Glass Eye factory. They eye was too big and Columbia University taught all the skills. In Excuses Excuses, Daniel had to guess that his basement was flooded, cranberries blocked his driveway and his Uber driver was kidnapped by aliens. Pillars brought us a sensitive situation that the doctor would have sorted out, if it weren’t for the shoelaces and kleenex.

Our cast lined up to tell us jokes in Bland Walks into a Bar, during which we were treated to guffaws and grins about tacos, staplers, electricians, Elmo and ramen noodles. Follow that Action featured a visit to the DMV, back room license busters that no one’s gonna call and shredded precious permits. The show wrapped up with Debate Club. There was much gesticulation in an argument involving Ren Faire, fantasy and interpretive dance.

20161118_200009Our 7 pm Family Friendly Show at the Warwick Museum of Art featured a very special FAM, our very own Graduating Youth Collective Member, Rachel, who is leaving us to pursue internships and college. Rachel wants to visit Sweden and if she could only have one dessert forever, it would be chocolate. We wish you all the best, Rachel! On cast were David, Daniel, Meredith, Jonathan, Ally and Ian. We started things off with FAM centerpiece, where Rachel had the honor of being the center of four scenes, in which we had adventures in virtual reality, bribed the Principal with gift cards, bravely ventured down the water slide, and we all screamed for Ice Cream.

Sports Commentator involved the World Window Washing Championship, in which our audience volunteer won because Ally ate Oreos. In Say it Again, essays were just “s” and “a”, Timmy broke a window, the nurse was needed and high fives went too far. Pavlovian Response required Ally and youth collective member Gabriella to guess that one of them had to lunge every time someone said “hey”, one for them had to yawn every time they heard the word “stop”, and Daniel slobbered whenever someone opened and closed their mouths. Lines from a Cup featured the Monkeys visiting Disneyland. There was much love, drama and Hamilton. World’s Worst taught us about the worst cowboys, crossing guards and brain surgeons.

Fortunately/Unfortunately brought us lawyers washing dishes to pay the bill from a car accident with a bumper made of putty. We wrapped up the show with Quickest Minute, where Swedish chocolate spilled all over Daniel and Jonathan.

20161118_184436 (1)It’s 6pm at the Warwick Center for the Arts: Time for our last Youth Collective show of the season! Tonight’s show featured Rachel, Shane, Emmy, Gabriella, Gabby and Rose as well as our FAM, Kelly. Kelly works as a CNA. She’s here with her husband, Paul, and if she had any free time she would go on a rally long drive and end up in Rome. We kicked off the show with a game of FAM Pillar. Kelly provided the missing words while Emmy and Rachel got a car from the dumpster and wondered why they couldn’t get anywhere! They had no plane, no car, no money! We followed that with Sit, Stand and Lie Down, in which Ethan showed off some angles in modelling school, and Gabriella cried because there was no math. In Party Quirks, Rose had to guess that Rachel would “neigh” every time someone said “like”, Shane had to say “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” anytime someone displayed emotions, and Emmy was Lafayette from the musical Hamilton. Rachel hosted Story, Story Die, in which a polar tiger got hives from eating pizza, so he decided to be a chef. He became a world famous chef and Gordon Ramsay started a restaurant with him, but they ate fur and the tiger had to pay a fine. Follow That Action brought us to the zoo, where Koalas slithered, and Shane go hit in the eye with a sno-cone (again?!). Our final game was Post-It, where Hawaii and Kalamazoo were excellent vacation choices and the best job was Underwater Pooperscooper.

20161113_162721It’s a Sunday afternoon and BYOI is at a graduation party for our FAM Francis with our cast of Candice, Amy, Emily and Myself here in Cranston, RI. Francis graduated from Bishop Henderkin and is now a theatre major at Rhode Island College. He wants to work with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and still thinks Bishop Henderkin has the best theatre in the world. So we put that acting skill to the test. We played a game of Highlander where Francis had the honor of convincing himself he can rap.

Next in Pillars, two kindergarteners were ready for the big test and were tricked by squash “pesketi.” Then we brought Francis up again to be in Dating Game where he had to choose from The Rock, The Cat’s Hat and Nebraska. We had a cake disaster in Two-Headed Monster and a difficult to build set in Action Figures. Finally we saw a skill deficient basketball team in Sing It.

It was a great show and we wish Francis all the best in his theatre career.

imageTwas the weekend after the election, so we all had fun at the Warwick Center For the Arts! Laughter is such great therapy, especially with Amy, Daniel, Josh, Barbara, Jonathan and Erich. Our FAM was a longtime regular, Shane! He’s a student and a camp counselor. He told us about his typical school day, filled with history, film making, lunch and literature. He’s been grounded for the past 7 months, but mom is awesome and still brings him to BYOI! FAM Day in the Life had Shane shipped to school in 3-5 days, because you have to be economical with shipping costs.

Growing and Shrinking Machine had feathered snakes, late voting, ropes through pants and Russian belts. In Six Pack, camp counselors had theraputic smores! Next up was Everything Emporium, Daniel was open for business! Erich needed a super soaker that shot cyanide pills, Jonathan was looking for latte flavored towels, and audience member Kate was in search of a teleporting unicorn.

Erich and Shane were the hosts in Movie Critics. They reviewed “Groonded” which is French for “Grounded.” It started off with the main character’s death, moved into a date with a mime, and ended with a zombie on an elevator. Because I Said So followed this, with Jonathan asking a million questions about genetics, dishes and what drugs are cheapest. Josh and Barbara were moved around in Action Figures, with gender neutral boxes! The final game of the night was Curtain Call, with the cast serenading the audience, and importantly, our FAM Shane!

imageWe had a great family friendly show at the Warwick Center For the Arts! Amy, David, Jonathan, Josh, Erich and Barbara were energetic and funny all night. We Our FAM was Ben! He plays trumpet in the jazz band at school and would like to see the beautiful landscapes of New Zealand someday. He’s not sure what he wants to be yet, and wants to teach his dog how to bring him food without eating it first. FAM Pillar had a salon with pizza and a bedazzled golden retriever.

Sit, Stand and Lie Down was a lesson in mindfulness and perspective in basketball…with the chess club. Ollie was able to do what he wanted in Revolver, while Josh the monkey shark kept returning to the princess. Jonathan then had friends over in Party Quirks! Sadly, it didn’t have bacon, but instead had Erich as Snoopy, David as a Justin Bieber toy collector, and audience member Ethan as a guy allergic to bananas who needed the potassium. Up next was Guidance Counselor, with Barbara trying to give good advice. Josh was too busy reading “Lord of the Rings” to teach math, Amy’s wanderlust was contagious, and Erich could only speak trumpet. They ended all making a trip to the beaches of Mordor together!

Story, Story, Die was next! The cast and a few audience members told the story of Henry the slobbery dog. As a superhero dog, he cleaned up the environment and saved the neighborhood from radiation and the supervillain dog who peed on everything. This was followed by Follow That Action, where horses learned their legs went back and forth, the lawnmower ran over toasted peanut butter sandwiches, and real racing horses got all the babes. The final game of the show was Post It, with a Texan tuba, a politician playing Clue, and a train set was on Mars.

20161111_185713Bring Your Own Improv is here tonight with our Youth Cast of Shane, Gabby, Rose, Emmy, Gabriella, Rachel & Ethan. Our FAM tonight is Charlie who loves Rapunzel, hates reading bad Star Wars books and wants a horse and giraffe combo called a gar-afee. So in Six Pack we lost the sword for the haircut in both Rapunzel and Chewbacca’s hair.

Next in Action Figures Shane and Emmy had some trouble boarding and driving the school bus. In New Born Ethan and Gabriella were Mt. Rushmore and Niagra Falls who had a baby Johnny Depp. After that is Spelling Bee, where our cast spelled out pot, presumptuous, and necessary was described as “something um chocolate.”

Centerpiece is next with Gabby as our centerpiece. She had to pay $18 to pet a unicorn, Rachel was upset that she wasn’t stinky enough to be a good sock, and Rose was concerned about losing all the pieces during an operation. Our last game was Lines From a Cup, where Ethan, Gabrielle and Gabby had to learn the entirety of Chinese history in one night, names got mixed up, and Ethan turned violet.

20161104_220927Our audience members Jonathan, Paul and FAM Jake were fun additions to What Are You Doing, where they threw up coins, had a 1950’s beach party and built a house of cards out of cement. Sing It had the spirits making the cards do what they needed to do. The Dating Game was next, where Ally was looking for love. Daniel was the Garden of Eden, Ian was a plunger, and audience member Shane was a hilarious Morgan Freeman!

Up next was Meanwhile, where the cast was looking for Jesus, but their detective skills were lacking. The lead to Back In My Day, without freshmen, pennies, or plumbers. The Good, the Bad & the Ugly was a blast, with people learning how to becoming a doctor and how to throw a great beach party. The final game of the night was Busta Rap! The cast had an epic rap battle with Shane and a surprise appearance by Candice! It was an upset, with Ian getting knocked out by the final two, Candice and Amy, with Amy winning!
